The Tale of The Tooth Fairy
Hundreds of years ago it was a common practice in Europe when a child's baby tooth fell out, to bury it. Usually, the tooth was buried in the garden or a field with hopes that a new one would grow to take its place. Another reason for this custom was a superstition that if a witch found the tooth, a curse could be placed on the child. By burying the child’s teeth, the curse was prevented.
As people moved to America, many of the same customs and superstitions followed. More people lived in towns and the custom shifted to burying in flower pots. Over time, the fallen teeth were placed under the child’s pillow, allowing the parents to switch the tooth during the night for a treat or coin.
The inquisitive children wanted to know what happened to their teeth. Their parents explained to them in the form of a bedtime story who was actually removing their teeth and leaving the treat in its place… and The Tooth Fairy was born. Children have grown to love this fairy-tale and the Tooth Fairy ever since.
But, what becomes of all those teeth? On a clear night, look up into the sky and you will find the answer among the gleaming and radiant stars.
